Getting Started

Jira is a project management and issue tracking platform used mainly by software development teams. Onna directly connects with Jira's API to collect all information in native format.

To collect from Jira on-premise you will need Onna's Discovery app and an Onna Enterprise account.

Onna syncs all files, including, but not limited to:

  • Issues, including description, name, creator, updater, status, type, progress, priority, resolution, due date, summary, components, original estimate, time spent, votes, issue links, and custom fields.
  • Attachments
  • Comments

We only support One-Time sync for on-premise collections

  • One-time: is a one-way sync that collects information only once.

The synchronization range currently encompasses individual projects.

Data Exports

You can export data and metadata in eDiscovery ready format. Exported files are available in the following formats:

  • dat 
  • CSV
  • Custom text file

How to add an Jira collection on-premise

First, install the Onna Discovery application on a machine that is behind the desired firewall and that has constant connectivity to the Jira server and Internet.

Note: Generally, a server, virtual or physical, is preferred over a desktop or laptop unless the machine will remain unlocked and have no interruptions to its connectivity. The app needs to be installed by a user with admin level access to that machine. If you have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled for your Jira site you may need to create a new account without it enabled.  

The app will open onto a login screen similar to the platform's login. 

After logging in with the same credentials you would use in the web platform, the app will open to your Workspaces page
Currently the workflow you'll have to follow is either:

  • Creating a new workspace for your collection
  • Using an existing workspace to add a data source 

Once in the workspace, next click "Add New Source" 

Currently, you can use the app to add a Confluence or Jira source. Select Jira


You'll be taken to the following page to input your Jira details. 

Name your data source and enter the site's URL as the host, as well as your username and password. If you have a specific date range you'd like to collect from, specify it here. Click "Connect".

Select the project you would like to sync.

After you've synced your Jira source, the data will be available on the Onna platform on the web.

For Jira on-premise collections, is it necessary to install anything on a server?
Yes, one needs to install an application on a Windows machine that is always on and has constant connectivity to the Jira server and Internet.

Where will the information be stored for an on-premise collection?The information that you collect using the app will be uploaded to Onna's cloud environment.

What type of login is needed - database or user?
A user account to Jira with full access to the project that needs to be collected.
